Skincare OEM Liquid Filling Production FAQ
What cleanroom class should a cosmetic liquid filling line meet?
Most non-sterile cosmetic filling runs in an ISO 14644 Class 8 environment, while preservative-free, high-water, or sensitive-skin formulas commonly require ISO Class 7. Classification is defined by maximum airborne particle counts, and it must be verified continuously — ask the filler for quarterly particle counts and microbial monitoring records, not just the class number on the door.

What should a cosmetic batch number contain?
A useful batch number encodes the fill date, the production line, and a sequence, and it opens a record listing the raw material lots consumed, machine settings, operators, and in-process results. That linkage is what turns a product-wide recall into a one-batch event when a single ingredient or filling fault is suspected.

How do filling lines prevent cross-fills and label mix-ups?
Cross-fills and label swaps concentrate at changeover, the minutes between two products. Reliable plants use keyed hose couplings and purge-to-waste verification, camera label inspection against the active job, inline checkweighing with auto-reject, and first-article sign-off before every line restart. Machine checks replace human memory at the moment of highest risk.

Which in-process checks matter most during a filling run?
Fill weight sampled every 15–30 minutes plus first article, cap torque and seal integrity at start, middle, and end, pH and viscosity per spec, and microbial counts per the batch plan. Fill-volume accuracy is also a profit issue: a consistent 1% overfill on a large order gives away the margin of hundreds of units.

What should a brand audit before signing a contract filling agreement?
Audit four areas: cleanroom class with live monitoring records, batch record design (raw material COA links, line, operator, in-process results), error-proofing equipment at changeover, and first-article and AQL release procedures. Ask to see the last three months of particle and microbial data and a sample batch record — the document quality tells you how the plant treats your future lots.

How does filling documentation connect to market compliance?
The EU requires a Product Information File describing the manufacturing method with a GMP conformity statement; ASEAN member states apply their own establishment licensing and notification rules; and U.S. MoCRA registration and GMP records support traceability. Filling records are not factory-internal paperwork — they are part of the compliance file for every market you sell into.
